This newest technology has 3 huge advantages.
One, digital x-rays expose the patient to a tenth of the radiation as compared to conventional dental films.
Second, a full set of x-rays takes much time to complete, leaving you with more time doing other things.
And finally, digital images can be enhanced to find cavities that are too small to be seen on a conventional x-ray film.
